What is Accelerated Reader (AR)?
It is a program designed to encourage students to read. AR quizzes students comprehension of books they have read using an online computer program. Students are able to to take quizzes on any computer located on our campus.
Goals and Points
Most of the books in our library have an AR quiz available Those books are marked with a reading level located on the inside of the book. You can always ask me if you need assistance locating the label. If a book has a pink dot instead of a reading level, then there is no quiz available.
Each book has a point value, which is the maximum number of points that can be earned from that book. If a student scores a 100% of the quiz, they are able to earn the full point value. If they earn a score of 60%-90%, then they will be awarded partial credit.
What happens if my child meets his/her goal?
There will be different rewards for students who have met their goal. Some of those rewards include earning their way to the 25, 50, 100, 250 and 500 point club. If a student reads one million words or more, they will become exclusive members of the Millionaire Club.
Are there quizzes on books from home or the public library?
YES! Our school subscribes to the online AR program, which means that our students have access to over 150,000 quizzes. Visit www.arbookfind.com to see if your book has a quiz.
When can my child take quizzes?
Quizzes can only be taken at school. The library will be open for quizzing from 7:15-7:30 AM every morning. If you read a book from home. please send a note with the title and author information in case your child needs help finding the quiz. Teachers will also allow students to take quizzes in their classroom during designated time throughout the day.
Is it okay to help my child?
Reading together is always encouraged! Primary students may have help reading the questions, but they should choose the correct answer themselves. Older students should take quizzes on their own. Students cannot use their books to look for answers. AR wants to know how well they understood the story.
How can I find out how many points my child has?
You may come into the library in the morning and log into your child's AR account. If you need assistance, I will be more than happy to help!

3. Do not take a quiz if you've only seen the movie.
4. Do not help other students with their AR quizzes.
